What should I do if I use my AED in a rescue?
After using your AED in a rescue, there are a number of steps you should take:
- Buy new AED electrode pads: These are one-time use and must be replaced if the package was opened, regardless if a shock was administered or not.
- Check the AED’s battery life: AED batteries can last more than one rescue, but it’s important to verify battery life left to ensure your AED will have enough power to be ready to respond for the next emergency.

- Replace any used rescue items: CPR masks, gloves, and other one-time-use items in your rescue kit.
