I pulled the Pull handle and now my AED is beeping and notifying that pads need to be replaced. The pads are not expired. Why?
Pulling the Pull handle on an AED should only be done during an actual rescue. Once pulled, the pads are exposed to the air, which can cause them to dry out. Dried out pads may not function properly in a rescue situation due to the loss of their adhesive and conductive qualities. Therefore, even if they are not expired, you will need to replace these pads to ensure the AED works effectively.
Why does the OnSite AED not require a prescription?
The OnSite AED is approved by the FDA for "over the counter use," meaning it can be used in a home. This approval from the FDA means it does not need a prescription.
