UPDATE: St. Croix AED Advocate Receives Federal Grant
In 2013, AED Superstore introduced you to AED advocate Cher Will, project director for the St Croix Foundation and the OSJ Commandery of the West Indies in the US Virgin Islands, who, while battling cancer, started a campaign to get as many AEDs on the island of St. Croix as she possibly could. Her own personal AED had saved the life of a friend on February 29, 2008, and that event led to a crusade which would change her life and save the lives of many on her island. In our 2013 article, we told you her full story, and at that time she had placed 27 AEDs through her AED Fund. These donations resulted in a total of 75 on the island. In 2014, we updated you on her progress and she let us know at that time they had 111 AEDs in 81 locations.
AED Superstore has continued to work with Cher and recently asked her to let us know how her campaign is faring. She told us she has applied for a federal grant, was awarded $21,000, and was invited back to apply again next year for more funding. She will receive the funding in January and will use it to place new AEDs in Virgin Island Police Department patrol vehicles. Cher adds, “This is a great start for adding First Responders as we will have all of them trained.” She went on to let us know “St. Croix now has about 150 AEDs, many of them placed with the help of the AED Superstore. It has been such a pleasure working with you!”
It’s been a pleasure working with you too, Cher! You are an inspiration to anyone who has tried to “get out of their head and into their heart.” If you want to help Cher’s cause, you can reach her via email at [email protected].
