Learn About Our Latest Grant Winners

Helping Kids with Autism and Their Families Learn and Grow

As usual, it was very difficult to pick just one recipient for our latest AED grant award. If we were able, we would love to put an AED in the hands of every single applicant. After reading through our applications and investigating our top five picks, the grant committee chose Developmental Disabilities Institute. Christine McClure, the Nurse Coordinator for the Children’s Day Program submitted their application and was happy to tell us more about their programs:

DDI is a non-profit agency that was founded back in 1961 on Long Island NY by a group of parents to serve children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. We now serve toddlers to adults with Autism and other developmental disabilities. We have several divisions of DDI programs including the Early Childhood program for 0-5 yrs. of age, Children’s Day Program for school-aged children 5yrs of age up to age 21, Adult dayhab programs, Residential programs, and vocational programs. Our programs are as diverse as those we serve.

More than fifty years later we remain fully dedicated to the mission that our founders created, “We help children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities experience personal growth and fulfillment.”

We not only serve the children and the adults enrolled within our program, we also educate the families of those we serve and offer support to them as well. We have programs throughout Long Island.

Within our programs, we provide a wide variety of services. Our programs are always growing, bringing in more children and adults requiring us to have more staff.

Our agency recognizes the unique needs of each person for whom we care and maintains the highest standards of teaching for our children, adults, and families, as well as training for our staff. We pride ourselves on utilizing research-based methods across all agency programs.
By obtaining the AED Superstore grant we are able to ensure prompt aide to those that may be in need of immediate medical care. We always put the health and safety of all those at DDI as one of our top priorities.

I am proud to be a part of the staff here at DDI. Knowing the difference that we make in the lives of so many children, adults and families is an amazing feeling.

I thank you for choosing DDI for this grant!

Sincerely,
Christine McClure, RN, BSN
