CPR/AED Awareness Week 2013
In December of 2007 our Congress declared the first week of June as National CPR/AED Awareness week. This week has been designated to help bring the importance of CPR and AED training to the public. The impetus of this designation is to spread the word: Train more people in CPR/AED, save more lives!
According to the American Heart Association, nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home. Statistically speaking, if you are called upon to render CPR in an emergency, the life you save is likely to be someone at home: a child, a spouse, a parent, or a friend. Effective CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival, but only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. We can do better.
At AED Superstore we are doing our part to provide CPR/AED training. Now partnered with Annuvia, we can provide a complete in-house solution for your training and medical direction needs. Annuvia is a nationwide network of trained healthcare professionals providing American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid training anywhere in the United States. For more information on CPR/AED training classes, click here. Mention the blog and get a 10% discount on training classes if you sign up before June 14, 2013. Classes can be scheduled for any time this year.
Take the opportunity this week to focus attention on the AED Programs in your community and your workplace. Where is the nearest AED? Is the status indicator showing “ready”? What is the expiration date of the pads? Does anyone need a refresher on its use?
AEDs are simple to use, but must be properly maintained. CPR training is easy to get, and hands-only CPR is simple and effective. This week we want to make everyone aware that anyone can save a life.
